Laredo Independent School District proudly announces its distinction as the first place winner in the recent Capstone PebbleGo Science Discovery Derby. This prestigious accolade highlights LISD’s commitment to fostering an innovative learning environment that empowers students to excel in their educational pursuits.
Students in LISD engaged and read 37,784 nonfiction articles in a 10 week period. Farias Elementary, a 2023-2024 National Blue Ribbon School bestowed by the United States Department of Education, led the charge with outstanding participation and performance. Additionally, earning the title of top school in the competition throughout the region. The achievement of Farias Elementary exemplifies the dedication of both students and staff to academic excellence and collaborative learning.
In celebration of their hard work, Farias students were treated to a “Boogie Oogie” dance and pizza party. “We are deeply honored, humbled, and grateful to accept this incredible achievement. This recognition is a culmination of tireless efforts and the collective support and encouragement of all individuals who have journeyed along the way. I am reminded that our greatest achievements are not just a reflection of our hard work, but also the result of the collective effort and support of those around us,” Farias Elementary School Principal Vanessa Ortegon said.
The PebbleGo Discovery Derby offered students and teachers across the Region One Education Service Center to engage deeply with PebbleGO’s nonfiction articles and content in a fun, interactive and instructional manner. LISD’s first place win is a testament to the district’s robust educational strategies and the effective integration of technology in classrooms and libraries.
Mely Paez, LISD’s Library and Media Services Director, expressed her enthusiasm about the district’s success: "We are immensely proud of our students and educators at Laredo ISD. Special congratulations to Farias Elementary for placing first , J.C. Martin Elementary for placing third, and our other participating schools for leading us to victory!"
