The Laredo Independent School District Board of Trustees has announced the appointment of Lilia Mora as the new principal of Zachry Elementary School recognizing her extensive experience and dedication to education.

Mora is an accomplished educator with a robust academic and professional background. She graduated from Alexander Magnet High School in 2001 and pursued higher education at Texas A&M International University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in history with a minor in philosophy. Continuing her academic journey, she obtained a master's degree in history and political thought.

She began her teaching career at Cigarroa High School, later moving to Martin High School, and eventually returning to her alma mater, Alexander High School, where she taught history. In 2019, she transitioned into administration, becoming the assistant principal at Alma Pierce Elementary.

 Mora has dedicated eight years to working with LISD and has a total of 13 years of experience in the field of education. “I am deeply honored and thrilled to serve as the educational leader at Zachry Elementary. It is a privilege to embark on this journey alongside dedicated educators, passionate students, and supportive parents. Each day brings new possibilities to foster a nurturing environment where learning flourishes, creativity blooms, and each child's potential is realized,” she said.

Mora also holds certifications that underscore her qualifications in education leadership and subject expertise. She is certified in Social Studies for grades 8-12, highlighting her mastery in the field. Additionally, she holds certifications as a Texas Principal and is qualified as a Texas Superintendent, demonstrating her readiness and proficiency in educational administration and leadership roles. These certifications complement her extensive academic background and professional experience, equipping her with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively lead Zachry Elementary towards continued success and excellence.

Coming from a family of educators, Mora is deeply rooted in the educational community. Her brother, Alberto Resendez, is the principal at Ryan Elementary, exemplifying their shared commitment to fostering academic excellence. Additionally, their mother, Lilia Guzman, owns and operates a bilingual private school in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico, that serves the border community, enriching educational opportunities with bilingual instruction and fostering cultural exchange within the region.

She is married to Alex Mora and together they have a 10-year-old son, Alexis. Currently, she is furthering her expertise by working towards a doctorate in educational leadership at Texas A&M University-Commerce. Her dedication to education and leadership continues to inspire and impact the academic community.

Mora is eagerly anticipating her new role as the principal at Zachry Elementary. She expressed her enthusiasm, saying, “Together, we will continue to build a community committed to excellence, innovation, and the holistic development of every student. I am eager to collaborate, inspire, and make a positive difference in the lives of our students and the community we serve."
