NHS BB Coach

Nixon High School and the LISD Athletic Department announced the naming of the new coach for Boys’ Baseball at Nixon High School. Jason Bonugli, who has been the assistant baseball coach for the last six years, has been promoted as the new boys’ baseball coach at Nixon High School.

"I would like to thank my principal Ms. Cassandra Mendoza, campus administration, and district leaders for entrusting me with this new role as Head Baseball coach,” said Bonugli. “I am excited and thankful to be able to continue my coaching career here at Nixon High School and look forward to enhancing the program.”

Coach Bonugli has been member of the L.I.S.D family for 8 years working at Tarver Elementary School and Nixon High School as a Physical Education teacher. He has extensive experience in athletics having been an assistant football and baseball coach at Nixon High School for the last 6 years.

“I would like to congratulate Coach Bonugli and his family for being named our new head baseball coach at J.W. Nixon High School.  Coach Bonugli brings collegiate experience and his energy will allow the coaching staff and student-athletes to synergize towards common goals,” said Luis Escamilla, LISD Assistant Athletic Director. “Nixon baseball is in good hands. On behalf of Laredo ISD, we wish Coach Bonugli and the Nixon baseball program a great year.”

Bonugli is a product of United High School and was a starting varsity pitcher and infielder for four years. He was selected as an All-State Pitcher in 2006. Bonugli helped the Longhorns secure the 2006 District title and advance to the Elite 8 State Tournament.

He attended TAMIU on a baseball scholarship where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Business administration. He pitched and played infield from 2006-2010. Bonugli was chosen as All Conference Pitcher for the 2007 season.

Bonugli wouldn't be able to continue doing what he enjoys without the support of his loving wife Mandee Walker-Bonugli and daughter Brinley.
