SOES Principal

The Laredo Independent School District Board of Trustees has announced the appointment of Mrs. Marcia L. Martinez to Principal of Sanchez/Ochoa Elementary School. After serving as assistant principal for six years, Martinez was promoted to lead the school as its new Principal.

With more than 25 years of experience and dedication to education, Martinez is ready to lead the Dolphin Family into a new era of success.  “I am blessed and beyond grateful for the opportunity to continue to lead our campus to new heights of success,” said Martinez. “I am committed to serving the students, teachers, staff, and community of this already amazing school.  Serving as an Assistant Principal has allowed me to build a foundation for our school that can continue to support our student success.”

Martinez was born and raised in Laredo.  She is a proud product of LISD and a graduate of Raymond and Tirza Martin High School, Golden Class of 1987. 

Martinez received her Bachelor's degree in Applied Arts and Sciences from Texas A&M International University with a minor in Sociology.  She earned her Master’s in Early Childhood and Bilingual Education from Texas A&M International University in 2005. 

Martinez, began her career as a Kindergarten Teacher at Hermelinda Ochoa Elementary. She has also been an Instructional Specialist for the district. Martinez pursued and earned a Principal certification from Region One in 2014. Martinez served as an Assistant Principal at Milton, Gallego, and Sanchez Ochoa Elementary School.

Martinez’s leadership is not limited to LISD.  She also serves at Laredo First Assembly as the Kids Ministry Coordinator and a Grow Group Leader since 2020.  She loves developing teachers and helping students grow in their faith. 

Her family has always been a source of inspiration and encouragement “That is the reason why I do what I do.  I want to leave a legacy of what can be accomplished when you put God first and work diligently with the gifts He gives,” said Martinez. “I also want to follow in the footsteps of my parents who lead the way in modeling what a good employee can do for an organization. This opportunity has been a blessing.  I pledge to Lead with Heart, Inspire Change, Support Growth and Drive Results for our Dolphin Family.”

Mrs. Martinez loves spending time with her husband, Arturo Martinez, children, and grandchildren.
