The Laredo Independent School District Board of Trustees has announced the appointment of Lori Moreno as Principal of Cigarroa Middle School. Moreno, who was an assistant principal at Martin High School, was promoted as the schools new Principal.
Starting her 17th year in education, Moreno is blessed to have been selected as the principal of Cigarroa Middle School. “My goal is to foster a supportive and engaging environment where students feel empowered to achieve their best,” said Moreno. “I am eager to collaborate with our dedicated teachers, staff, and parents to ensure that we provide the highest quality education and create a positive, inclusive school culture. I believe in the potential of every student, and I'm committed to making Cigarroa Middle School a place where they can thrive both academically and personally.”
Moreno started her career as a high school science teacher at the Hector J. Garcia Early College High School, where she taught for 11 years. In 2019, she began her administrative career at Alma Pierce Elementary School. The following year, she was named the assistant principal at VMT. She has been the College, Career, and Military Readiness dean/assistant principal at Martin High School for the last three years.
Moreno graduated from TAMIU with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology in 2008 and earned her Master’s in Educational Leadership from the University of Texas at Tyler in the Spring of 2019. She has a Science Composite (Grades 8-12) and Superintendent certification. Moreno is currently working on her doctoral degree in School Improvement from UT Tyler.
Moreno is the daughter of Javier and Lamar Montalvo, who were both educators in LISD with the Toro feeder pattern. Her mother served 36 years with LISD having taught at Kawas Elementary, Santo Nino Elementary, and Daiches Elementary Schools. Her father served 30 years with LISD, all of which were at Cigarroa High School.
Moreno is married to her husband, Oscar and they have two wonderful children, Chloe Elise and Landon
