The Laredo Independent School District Library and Media Services Department is proud to announce the arrival of 80 brand-new iPads as part of an exciting new initiative spearheaded by Region One Library Services in coordination with the Texas State Library and Archives Commission. This initiative aims to enhance digital literacy and provide students the tools they need to enhance learning, engagement, and academic success.
The iPads will be distributed to school libraries at Don Jose Gallego, Dovalina, Kawas, Ligarde, Macdonell, Milton, Santa Maria, Sanchez/Ochoa, Ryan, Tarver, Zachry Elementary Schools, Christen Middle School, Martin, Cigarroa, and Nixon High Schools to support student learning and will be used under the supervision of certified librarians.
“We are excited to partner with Region One Library Services and the Texas Library and Archive Commission to provide our students with 80 brand new iPads. These devices will be utilized in our library’s MakerSpace area, where students can engage in hands-on learning and develop critical digital literacy skills needed to excel in today’s technology-driven world,” Mely Paez, LISD Library and Media Services Director said.
Each iPad comes equipped with Apple EarPods, OtterBox Defender protective cases, and OtterBox Alpha screen protectors to ensure they are well-protected and ready for use in a variety of educational settings. “This generous donation equips our students with the tools they need to thrive in an increasingly digital world, and we are incredibly grateful for this support, which will have a lasting impact on their educational experiences," Paez added.
Tina D. Ramirez, Ligarde Elementary School Librarian outlined the exciting ways the iPads will transform student learning experiences. “We are going to use the iPads donated for Makerspace activities where students will drive Sphero Bots, create with the Osmo App, and make pictures come to life with QuiverVision. Students will also use the iPads to read ebooks and use online databases for research activities. Technology allows students to experience things that would not be possible for them otherwise. These iPad technology experiences give our students background knowledge that helps give them a deeper understanding of what they are learning in the classroom.”
The iPads will support a wide range of classroom activities, including research, interactive assignments, and group collaboration, enabling students at all grade levels to take advantage of cutting-edge technology to enhance their education. By incorporating this technology into everyday learning, LISD is continuing to foster an environment where students can develop critical skills and reach their full potential.
