Get to Know: Ms. Cruz, Dyslexia Teacher at Alma Pierce Elementary

I’m Christella Cruz, Alma Pierce’s Dyslexia Teacher. This school year marks my ninth year of teaching. I started at LISD as a reading tutor and quickly realized I loved working with children so much that I decided to make it a career. I spent six years as a second grade RLA teacher at Macdonell Elementary before transitioning to my current position. Working with various student populations has been such a rewarding experience. I enjoy helping students achieve their full potential and become confident readers. My future goal is to become a Licensed Dyslexia Therapist to continue assisting our neurodivergent students.

When I’m not working, I love to relax with a good book or Netflix series. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends as much as possible. We usually travel and attend concerts together. I’m also an animal lover, especially dogs; I have three of them - two English Bulldogs, Chloe, and Mac, and a Lab named Rex! I like crafting and doing DIY arty projects that TikTok convinces me I need to do.
