Coat with Love

With the winter season just around the corner, we’ll be grabbing our coats to keep warm and so will hundreds of LISD student who received a new coat from the district’s annual community project.

An LISD tradition took over the Dr. Marcus Nelson Conference Center as over 400 LISD elementary students filled the room for the LISD’s Office of Communications 15th Annual “Coat Them with Love” coat distribution event.

The LISD Office of Communications, campus staff, and community partners presented the students with an early Christmas gift. One by one, the students came up to receive their new jacket and took a picture with district administration and sponsors.

The students were also treated to pizza and punch and even had several special visitors drop in including Santa Claus and the Chick-Fil-A Marketplace Elf Cow who took time to take pictures with them.

In past years, the coats were delivered to the schools. But this year the Communications Office started something different, they brought the kids out to the Nelson Center for a good time.

“This is one of the events that we all look forward to in our office every year. We wanted to do something different, so we brought the kids to us here at the Nelson Center,” said Bobby Trevino, LISD Public Information Coordinator. “When the kids put on their new jackets, those looks and smiles, that is what it’s all about.”

The Office of Communications along with its community partners and LISD employees recently came together for LISD’s “Bowl 4 KIDS” Bowling Competition so LISD elementary students can get a warn coat for the chilly winter season. Close to 200 LISD employees and community partners laced up their bowling shoes during the district’s annual BOWL 4 KIDS Competition.

The coats were purchased with proceeds from BOWL 4 KIDS. LISD would like to thank its community partners Kazen, Meurer, and Perez, Chick-Fil-A Marketplace, Falcon Bank, Laredo, Federal Credit Union, PNC Bank, Whataburger, Juan Cruz Law Firm, Sunbelt Air Conditioning, and DBR Engineering.

During the last 15 years the Coat them with Love Campaign has provided over 6,000 coats to LISD students. Individuals or local companies and organization interested in donating new coats for LISD students please contact the LISD Office of Communications at 273-1730.
