LISD ‘s Office of Communications and title sponsor Leyendecker Construction hosted the fourth Annual LISD Scholars Golf Tournament on Saturday, February 10, at the Casa Blanc Golf Course. The golf tournament was a three-man scramble that included 30 teams.
Close to 100 golfers enjoyed a fun-filled day with a round of golf that included breakfast and lunch, door prizes, a cool goody bag, awards ceremony and a warm feeling from supporting LISD’s graduates on their way to college. Golfers also had the opportunity to go home with a brand-new vehicle with our Hole in One Contest sponsored by Mercedes Benz of Laredo.
“Our LISD Scholars Golf Tournament is a really special event because it not only brings scholarship opportunities to our students but it also brings the community into our schools,” said LISD Superintendent Dr. Sylvia Rios. “It’s a joint effort. Throughout the year we work with community agencies but now we also work with individuals who really share our mission and they share in the vision of creating those opportunities for our students.”
All proceeds from the tournament will benefit scholarships for deserving graduating seniors from Martin, Nixon, Cigarroa, Garcia Early College, and Valdez High Schools.
Trophies were awarded to the top three teams. First place was won by golfers Lalito Uribe, Emilano Cruz, and Juan Compean. The second-place trophy was awarded to the team composed of Mando Bustamante, Alfredo Flores, and Hugo Seca. The third-place trophy was awarded to golfers Armando Garcia, Roberto Garcia, and Lonnie Rodriguez.
