Due to the excessive heat and humidity warnings in our area this summer the LISD Athletic Department will be implementing the district’s Outdoor Heat Related Protocols for all LISD Summer Sports Camps. The LISD Athletics Department is hosting a wide variety of Summer Sports Camps through Friday, July 29. The sports camps will be hosted by Nixon Cigarroa and Martin High Schools.
The sports camps are open to all LISD boys and girls from elementary to high school. The camps will allow students to participate in football, volleyball, boy’s and girl’s basketball, boy’s and girl’s golf, soccer, softball, and tennis.
The following protocols will be observed during all LISD summer camps;
· - During all outdoor activities water must be made readily available to participants at all times; restriction to water is prohibited.
· - Additional water breaks are being scheduled to accommodate for the higher temperatures.
· - Coaches and sponsors will monitor students/participants at all times for signs of heat related illness.
· - Outdoor temperatures and humidity will be documented and monitored to generate shorter practice times and adjusted practice times to early morning practices.
Nixon High School summer sports camps are scheduled for Monday, June 3, to Thursday, June 13. The football camp “QB & WR Air it Out Academy” will run through Thursday, June 5, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at NHS Montes Field for fifth and sixth grade students. The boys’ baseball camp “Little League Camp” is set for Friday, June 7, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. for boys ages nine to 12 years old at Ochoa Field. The softball “All Skills Clinic” is scheduled for Monday, June 10, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., for girls in third to ninth grade and the girls Skills Basketball Camp that is scheduled for Thursday, June 13, from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. for girls in fifth and sixth grade and from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for girls in third and fourth grade.
Cigarroa High School summer sports camp includes the Speed Factory Sprit Camp through Thursday, June 5, from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Cigarroa High School for girls’ seven to 14 years old.
