Do you know Mrs. Lorena Madriaga?
GECHS Campus Spotlight: Lorena Madriaga is a Science teacher at Garcia Early College High School. She has been in LISD for 30 years. She teaches Principles of Technology-Physics and Anatomy and Physiology. She is also the UIL Science coach. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Centro Escolar University in the Philippines. She earned her Master’s degree in Psychology and Curriculum and Instruction from Texas A&M International University. She believes in motivating her students not only to do well in the classroom but also to be involved in their community. She encourages her students to be altruistic and to lend a hand to those who are in need. She loves teaching at the Garcia Early College High School because it is a small community of learners who are driven and highly motivated. #PhoenixPride
LISD to observe Thanksgiving Holiday
Due to the Thanksgiving Holiday, there will be no classes for 9th grade students on Nov. 20 - 24, 2023.
TAMIU will have classes this Monday, Nov. 20, and Tuesday, Nov. 21, for grades 10, 11, and 12. Please see the Transportation Schedule.
No TAMIU class on Nov. 22 - 24, 2023. Classes resume regular schedule for everyone on Monday, Nov. 27, 2023.

The Laredo Independent School District campuses and administrative offices will be closed beginning Monday, November 20, through Friday, November 24, in observance of the Thanksgiving Holiday.

GECHS seniors attended a presentation on the University of Texas at Austin, Texas. Information on the admission process and on the many scholarship opportunities were shared with them.
Garcia Early College High School faculty and staff participated in the CPS Foster Children's Christmas Toy Drive. Christmas is the season of giving.

GECHS campus Spotlight: Angelica Guajardo serves as the Student Programs Specialist for GECHS, bringing over 7 years of experience with LISD. She began her journey as a science lab manager and later ascended to the role of parent liaison at Santa Maria Elementary. A proud LISD graduate from Martin High School Class of 2005. Mrs. Guajardo holds a Bachelor of Applied Arts and Science with a concentration in Criminal Justice. She expresses her enthusiasm, stating, “I am thrilled to contribute to a welcoming high school environment, fostering growth and positive learning experiences. I am excited for the journey ahead!”

LISD to host Specialty Schools Open House
Laredo Independent School District will be hosting its annual Specialty Schools Open House at each campus for eighth grade students and their parents on Saturday, November 11, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The seven specialty schools will open their doors to the community and invite eighth grade students to tour the campus and apply for admission for the 2024-2025 school year.
The event is aimed at recruiting students who may be interested in attending any LISD specialty school for the 2024-2025 school year. The seven early college high schools and magnet school include the Business, Industry, and Public Services Early College Academy at Nixon High School, Sabas Perez Early College High School at Cigarroa High School, Dr. Dennis D. Cantu Health Science Early College High School at Martin High School, Hector J. Garcia Early College High School located at Texas A&M International University, Pathways to Technology Early College High School at Cigarroa High School, Agriculture, Food, & Natural Resources (AFNR) P-TECH at Martin High School, and the Vidal M. Trevino School of Communications and Fine Arts Magnet School.
Students in Mrs. Madriaga's Science class worked on Marble Launcher Lab Activity, where the students measured the range of a marble launched at different angles.
