The LISD Athletic Department hosted the 2024-2025 Coaches Conference for all LISD middle and high school coaches at the Dr. Marcus Nelson Conference Center. The conference celebrated the 2023-2024 athletic accomplishments and geared up for an exciting scholastic year with our student-athletes.
Congratulations to Sara Contreras and Yvana Guzman! They have been selected to represent GECHS on the Laredo Youth Council. This opportunity will allow them to expand their understanding of the city and build important relationships during their time with the LYC. #PhoenixPride
Laredo ISD welcomed its newest educators during the New Teachers Academy on Tuesday morning at the Vidal M. Trevino School of Communications and Fine Arts. The morning began with greetings from Superintendent Dr. Sylvia Ríos. The new teachers are spending the week learning about LISD’s policies, procedures, instructional technology, and much more.

Congratulations to the GECHS Class of 2024!
Congratulation to LISD Student of the Month for May from Garcia Early College High School Isabella Mendoza.
Mendoza is a 10th grade student at Garcia Early College High and is ranked 18 in her class. She is dual-enrolled at TAMIU and is currently taking college credit courses in Psychology and Music Theory.
Isabella is an active student on campus and in our community. She is President of the Art Club, and part of the Superintendents Student Advisory Council, Student Council, National Honor Society, UIL Ready Writing, and the school newspaper, The Phoenix Quarterly.
Isabella volunteers at her church, Our Lady of Guadalupe. One her biggest passions is being an Alter Server. This year, she was named the church youth group leader. In her free time, Mendoza likes to read the Bible and loves performing to worship songs which allow her to bring glory to God first.
Isabella plan on attending St. Mary’s University or the University of Houston to pursue her degree in Political Science. She hopes to attend law school so she can come back to Laredo and serve her community as a Lawyer.
She attended Farias Elementary School and Cigarroa Middle School. Isabella is the daughter of Isela and Jesus Mendoza.
On Wednesday, May 22, students at GECHS had a fantastic time at the Class of the Clashes Field Day! A big thank you goes out to Ms. Hernandez and the Student Council for organizing such an enjoyable event. #PhoenixPride
Graduation Day is finally here! Garcia ECHS Seniors are ready to walk the stage and celebrate all their hard work. Here's to the Phoenix Class of 2024 and the incredible journey ahead!

Congratulations to LISD's April Youth of the Month Sara Contreras. Contreras is a 10th grade student at Garcia Early College High and is also dual-enrolled at TAMIU. She is currently taking college credit courses in Psychology and Music Theory.
She likes coming to school because she is part of the dual enrollment program that allows her to attend college classes at TAMIU and receive that college life experience.
Sara is an active student on campus and in our community. She is part of the Student Council, National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, UIL Current Events, the school newspaper The Phoenix Quarterly, and Phoenix yearbook.
Sara volunteers at her church and serves as an usher. She is a member of The Chosen Youth. Outside of school she is part of the LULAC Youth Organization and serves on the Ola committee.
She enjoys playing volleyball and basketball, reading, and just going out for walks.
Sara plan on becoming a forensic psychologist and attending Texas State or the University of Houston to purse her degree and PHD. She wants to come back to Laredo and serve her community with the Child Advocacy Center.
She attended Ryan Elementary School and Lamar Middle School.
