In celebration of Education Binational Week (Semana Binacional de Educacion 2024), Consul General of México and Arca Continental Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages distributed free laptops to 20 exceptional middle school students from the Laredo Independent School District.
The event, held in the LISD Amber Yeary Board Room, celebrated the academic achievements of the students who were selected from the LISD Bilingual Scholars of the Month and Bilingual Scholars of the Year. The ceremony was graced by distinguished guests including LISD Board Vice President Rodolfo “Rudy” Morales, III, LISD Superintendent Dr. Sylvia G. Rios, Consul General of México Juan Carlos Mendoza, and Hugo Audiffred, representing Arca. Also present were Consulate General of México representatives Jimena Morales, Monserrat Gutiérrez, and Jazmín Castillo, as well as TAMIU Dean of the College of Education Dr. James O'Meara.
The laptops were awarded to students who have demonstrated outstanding resilience in their educational journeys. Despite facing numerous challenges, these students have excelled in their academics, attendance, and recognitions.
From Christen Middle School, the recipients were Perla Briones, Angel Estrada, Christopher Garcia, Abdiel Adair Gonzalez, and Chelsea Lopez.
At Cigarroa Middle School, the honored students included Bianka Briones, Yahir Hernandez Moran, Guadalupe Ortiz, Samantha Nicole Sanchez Gamez, and Amanda Vargas.
Lamar Middle School students recognized were Angel Alonzo, Alexia Hinojosa Diaz, Jimena Lisdey Guevara, Jose Ricardo Perez, and Nynna Krystina Villanueva.
Finally, from Memorial Middle School, the students who received laptops were Sofia Calderon Lopez, Jonathan Garcia Espinoza, Kevin Marquez Marquez, Kevin Rodriguez, and Cristhian Sotero Hilario.
LISD Director of Guidance & Counseling Cindy Dominguez expressed gratitude for the support, stating, “Thank you to our community partners for considering the students of Laredo ISD as recipients of this essential tool that will enhance their education, technological advancement, and their preparation for their college, career, or military path. The attention to the needs of our students is greatly appreciated, and we look forward to future collaborations.”
