Students from the Vidal M. Treviño School of Communications and Fine Arts (VMT) recently experienced a captivating day of artistic and literary exploration at the Laredo Center for the Arts. The highlight of their visit was "The Quest to Dream: A Rare Collection of the First Printed Don Quixote Illustrations" exhibit, which showcased the original illustrations of Miguel Cervantes's iconic novel, Don Quixote de La Mancha. These historic images brought the legendary tale to life for students, blending literature with visual art in a unique and immersive way.
The students also had the privilege of participating in a printmaking workshop led by Mr. Jesse Shaw, assistant professor and director of Visual Arts at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU). This hands-on experience allowed the students to create their own prints, giving them a deeper appreciation for the art form and enabling them to engage directly with the creative process.
The day didn’t end there. Students also viewed Transitions, an inspiring exhibit by Laredo native Miki Rodriguez, whose work delves into themes of change and personal growth. This added a powerful layer of reflection to their visit, making the day not only educational but also deeply inspiring.
From historical illustrations to contemporary art, the students left the center with renewed creativity and a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness between art and literature. It was a memorable day of learning, exploration, and inspiration for the VMT art community.
