Heights Elementary School kicked off this years Greatest Reading Show on Earth with its annual Accelerated Reader Rally in the school’s gym. A parade led by Circus Ring Masters, followed by the Nixon High School Drum line and Cheerleaders energized the crowd of students that is ready to reach their AR goal of 100 percent this school year.
This morning, Laredo ISD dedicated the shot put ring at Shirley Field to former Martin High School standout, Melanie Duron. Her hard work and dedication has left a lasting impact on our community, inspiring future athletes to reach new heights. Congratulations, Melanie! Continue leading the way!

Earlier this morning, the Valdez and Farias campuses were placed on secure to safeguard our students from a fire in a nearby warehouse.
At no time were the students and staff in danger. The secure has been lifted and Instruction continues as regularly scheduled at both campuses.
We thank the City of Laredo Fire Department, City of Laredo Police Department, and the Laredo ISD Police Department for their quick response to the incident.
The hallways at Sanchez/Ochoa Elementary School were filled with enthusiastic students walking into their new classes ready to learn on the first day of the school.

As we continue to prepare for a safe 2024-2025 school year, local law enforcement agencies came together yesterday for the "Blessing of the Badges" ceremony, hosted by the Laredo ISD Police Department. It was a heartfelt event where officers received a special blessing for their badges, symbolizing the protection and strength they carry as they safeguard our schools and community.
Martin, Nixon, and Cigarroa High School football teams will team up with area schools on the gridiron to collect peanut butter to help local families by participating in the 2024 Peanut Butter Bowl Challenge. The Peanut Butter Bowl is a statewide campaign in collaboration with high school football to help feed the less fortunate.
Santa Maria Elementary School is excited to kick off another amazing school year! Returning and new Blue Jays got to meet their teachers and connect with friends at yesterday's Meet the Teacher Night. Kindergarten through 5th grade students were also able to pick up their clear backpacks provided by LISD!
