Congratulations to LISD high school students for completing the the first ever KINE 1308 Sports Officiating dual enrollment class this summer! They excelled in learning the intricacies of officiating requirements for sports and games with an emphasis on mechanics to rule enforcement. Way to go!

Laredo ISD summer school classes will resume tomorrow, Thursday, June 20, as regularly scheduled. Laredo ISD also announces that High School End of Course (EOC) testing resumes tomorrow and continues Monday, June 24.
The LISD Transportation Department will also resume bus service and routes. The LISD Child Nutrition Program will provide warm, nutritious meals.
LISD diligently monitors and discusses weather conditions with the City of Laredo Emergency Management Team. LISD Kazen Fellowship students participated in activities with the Laredo Sector Border Patrol. The students had an opportunity to hear presentations, see exhibits and take tours with Border Patrol Marine, HPU, SUAS, ATVs and Bike Patrol Units.

Girls’ cross country athlete Kaitlynn Sierra signed her NLI to continue her academic and cross-country career at Texas A&M International University. She will be majoring in Nursing.
Boys’ cross country athlete Jorge Sanchez signed his NLI to continue his academic and cross-country career at Texas A&M International University. He will be majoring in Criminal Justice.
Boys’ cross country athlete Mario Guzman signed his NLI to continue his academic and cross-country career at the University of Texas at Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV). He will be majoring in Criminal Justice.

Congratulations to LISD Student of the Month Adan Garcia Fax of Lamar Middle School . Garcia Faz is a sixth-grade student at Lamar Middle School.
His favorite part of the school day is when he gets to go to his math class.
In his free time Adan volunteers at his church and enjoys playing basketball.
His main goal is to graduate from TAMIU and own his own company.
He attended Daiches Elementary School and plans to attend Nixon High School.

Congratulation to LISD Student of the Month Jonathan Torres of Memorial Middle School.
Memorial Middle School eighth grader Jonathan Torres is an exceptional student who is both a leader and a role model to his peers.
He has maintained excellent attendance and grades. His favorite part of the school day is when he attends his math class and gets to play soccer with his classmates.
Jonathan additionally devotes a lot of time to extracurricular activities as he participates in the Mighty Eagle Soccer team. In his free time, Jonathan enjoys spending time with his cousins practicing and perfecting his soccer skills.
Jonathan hopes to get a scholarship and play soccer for Texas A&M International University while he works on getting his bachelor's degree.

Congratulation to LISD Student of the Month for May Cynthia Molina from Cigarroa Middle School.Molina is an eighth-grade honors and gifted and talented student at Cigarroa Middle School.
Cynthia is Captain of the school’s Robotics Team, and a member of Junior FFA, Algebra Program, National Junior Honor Society. She enjoys coming to school because she likes to learn new things in her algebra classes.
Medina’s goal is to attend Texas A&M University to major in Business. Once she completes her studies, Cynthia plans to own her own business.
Medina enjoys spending time tending to her horses, goats, and many other animals at her family’s ranch. As a member of the National Honor Society, Cynthia volunteers at the Pet Shelter and the South Texas Food Bank.
She attended Zachry Elementary School and plans to go to Nixon High School and the BIPS Early College Academy. Cynthia is the daughter of Irving and Nancy Lozano.

Congratulation to LISD Student of the Month for May Jayleen Turrubiates from Christen Middle School. Turrubiartes is a GT student who works hard to keep good grades.
Jayleen is part of the Mighty Christen Middle School Mariachi and Band programs. She proudly represents these programs by playing the trumpet. Turrubiartes is also a member of Junior Honors Society, the cheer squad, and basketball team.
Jayleen’s favorite part of the school day is her math class because she learns so much.
She is also the running back for the Wildcats a city league football team. In her free time Jayleen likes to paint, play volleyball, and play football with her stepdad.
Jayleen main goal for her future is to attend TAMIU. She hopes to become a soldier in the United States Army or attend medical school so she can be a pediatrician to help children in need.
Turrubiartes attended Macdonell Elementary School and she plans on going to Nixon High School. Jayleen is the proud daughter of Maria Berdare and Mike Cruz.

Laredo ISD Library and Media Services Department is thrilled to announce that Laredo Independent School District clinched 1st place in the Capstone PebbleGo Science Discovery Derby! Over 10 weeks, dedicated LISD students read 37,784 nonfiction articles, showcasing their passion for learning. Special shoutout to Farias Elementary, a National Blue Ribbon School, for leading the way with exceptional participation and earning the title of the top schools in the competition throughout the region!
Principal Vanessa Ortegon expressed, "This incredible achievement reflects our hard work and the support of our community." Kudos to J.C. Martin Elementary for placing 3rd and all our schools for this amazing victory!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Summer school classes resume at LISD tomorrow, Dovalina & Ligarde Elementary Schools remain closed
Laredo ISD Summer School classes will resume at all LISD elementary, middle, and high schools on Thursday, May 30, 2024, with the exception of Ligarde and Dovalina Elementary Schools.
Dovalina and Ligarde Elementary Schools remain closed due to power outages caused by Tuesday night’s thunderstorm. AEP is expecting for power to be restored at Dovalina and Ligarde tomorrow.
LISD Transportation will be providing service for students who normally depend on school bus rides. The LISD Child Nutrition Program will be serving warm and nutritious breakfast and lunch meals to students and to children ages 18 and younger through their Summer Meals program.
