LISD thanks McDonald’s Restaurants of Laredo for their big-hearted donation to Daiches, Farias, Tarver and Dovalina Elementary Schools. Owner/operator Mike Marasco presented the checks with proceeds from recent McTeacher Nights held across town.
Hector J. Garcia Early College High School hosted its Scholarship Night tonight for its graduating seniors. A total of $10.2 million was presented to the GECHS Class of 2023. Mil gracias to all the generous donors for helping to make these graduates dreams come true.

LISD Police Department held its graduation for the L.E.A.D (Law Enforcement Against Drugs and Violence) program at Macdonell Elementary School. This 10-week program teaches third grade students the importance of saying 'no' to drugs, increases awareness on substance abuse, alcohol, bullying, etc.
MHS seniors are well on their way to higher education! Congrats to the scholarship recipients who were honored by their respective donors at their Scholarship Night. There were over $7.5 million dollars worth of scholarships offered to the Mighty Tigers!
The LISD Board of Trustees welcomed the newest member of the Board for District 2 Mr. Rodolfo “Rudy” Morales III during a swearing-in ceremony at the LISD PAC on Tuesday night. Morales was sworn in by Judge Juan Paz.
Nixon High School senior soccer players Fermin Ciriaco and Salvador Diaz have committed to play soccer at Missouri Valley College. They both signed their National Letter of Intent to continue their academic and soccer career at MVC in Marshall, Missouri. Ciriaco will be majoring in Kinesiology while Diaz will be majoring in Physical Therapy.
Students, the deadline to turn in perfect attendance vouchers at Sames is this Saturday, May 13, 2023. Students must submit their completed vouchers in person at Sames Auto located at 6001 San Dario or at the Sames location on the Zapata Highway.

Laredo ISD high school students enjoyed an informational Law Enforcement Career Fair! A big 'thank you' to all agencies who participated!
Laredo ISD students attended the Color of Justice Program hosted by 341st District Court Judge Beckie Palomo. The program serves to encourage and motivate minority students to consider the law and the judiciary as career goals. The program focuses on career preparation, academic requirements and skills needed in order to succeed in a career in the law.
Students will had the opportunity to shadow judges and attorneys. Judges discussed why they chose the judiciary as a career, their role and responsibility, and the challenges and rewards of their profession. Attorneys also shared personal and professional insights related to their practice in different areas in the law.
LISD releases students at Santo Nino Elementary School
The Laredo Independent School District is releasing students at Santo Nino Elementary School today, Friday, May 5, at 1:30 p.m. due to a water line break in the area. The City of Laredo expects the water line to be repaired within the next several hours.
Parents are asked to please pick up their children as soon as possible.
LISD Transportation Department has already sent buses for those students who rely on bus transportation.
Classes at Santo Nino Elementary School will resume on Monday, May 8, at their regularly scheduled time.
