Trevino Magnet School and Martin High School junior Jesus Martinez has been accepted to the prestigious and world-renown Interlochen Center for the Arts Residency Program for his senior year of high school. Jesus was also selected as a member of the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) All-State Band. He received a first chair in Tuba at the Area finals earning him a spot in the 2024 TMEA All-State Band Concert.
Congratulations to Martin High School's Frida Garcia for being named the LISD February Student of the Month.
Frida Garcia is a 10th grade student at Martin High School. She is also enrolled at the Dr. Dennis D. Cantu Health Science Early College High School and is ranked fourth in her class.
Frida is a member of the school’s HOSA chapter. This fall she competed for the first time in Human Growth and Development and placed third in Area 7 qualifying for State where she will be competing against the top 21 students in Texas. Her favorite part of the school day is when she gets to learn about Forensic Science and Anatomy.
Frida is actively involved with the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council where she advocates the importance of literacy skills while visiting elementary schools, as well as, with her fellow committee members, bringing to light issues in the district from a student’s point of view. She was also elected by her peers as the class of 2026 President.
Frida's future goals are to attend the University of Austin and major in Speech Pathology. She hopes to become a Speech Language Pathologist to help her community.
In her free time, Frida enjoys dancing and singing. She attended Santa Maria Elementary School and Christen Middle School. Frida is the daughter of Adilia and Otativo Garcia.

LISD ‘s Office of Communications hosted the 4th Annual LISD Scholars Golf Tournament on Saturday, February 10, at the Casa Blanc Golf Course. Close to 100 golfers enjoyed a fun-filled day of golf that included breakfast and lunch, door prizes, a cool goodie bag and a warm feeling from supporting LISD’s graduates on their way to college. Thanks to our sponsors and golfers LISD was able to raise money for scholarships for students from Martin High School, Nixon High School, Cigarroa High School, Garcia Early College High School, and Valdez High School.

Martin High School students visited Milton Elementary School to teach the Junior Achievement Curriculum to students in all grade levels.

Laredo Independent School District recognized the top JROTC students during the JROTC Honorable Cadet Ceremony at Cigarroa High School. The Honorable Cadets are from Martin High School junior Carlos Andrade, Nixon High School junior Xerina Coleman, and Cigarroa High School junior Ashley Adame were named LISD’s Honorable Cadets for their qualities and leadership skills as cadets who demonstrate outstanding capabilities as active members of their community through service, self-discipline, responsibility, and respect. The recognition was conducted by LISD’s ROTC Program and the LISD College, Career and Military Readiness Department.

The Student of the Month Program is designed to recognize worthy students for their exemplary academic efforts, community service, citizenship, athletics, or volunteer service. The student should demonstrate average academic effort, good school attendance and good discipline. The nominated student should also demonstrate one of the four Leading the Way categories; Leading with Heart, Inspiring Change, Supports Growth, and Drive Results.
