CONGRATULATIONS, Coach Juan Carmona on being selected as the Head Girl's Basketball Coach!!
For the last 24 years, Coach Carmona has had the pleasure of working with the Laredo Independent School District. He is a proud product of Cigarroa High School class of 1997. He continued his education in Laredo by attending LCC and then receiving a bachelor's degree in Kinesiology from TAMIU. Coach Carmona has been an assistant football coach for 10 years and assistant basketball coach for 7 years. He is married to Amanda Carmona and a proud father of 3 children.
Coach Carmona stated: "At this time, I am proud and honored to be named the new head girls basketball coach at Cigarroa High School. My goal is to continue the winning tradition and values that Coach Mary Encinas helped create and continue to develop well rounded student athletes. "

Congratulations to our new CHS Assistant Athletic Campus Coordinator, Carlos Cruz.📢
Carlos Cruz is an experienced educator and coach who has dedicated a decade to serving LISD. A proud alumnus of Cigarroa High School, where he graduated in 2009, Carlos has embraced his role at the school with enthusiasm and passion, having been part of the Toro family since birth, thanks to his father’s legacy as a coach at the same institution.
Throughout his career, Carlos has coached multiple sports, including football, basketball, and volleyball. He is currently the head girls track and field coach at Cigarroa High School, where he has made a significant impact by coaching numerous district and area champions and guiding athletes to regional and state track meets.
In addition to his coaching duties, Carlos is dedicated to education, teaching biology and kinesiology. He plays a vital role in preparing students for careers in health and fitness by offering certification as personal trainers. He is committed to his students' academic and athletic success.
We look forward to Coach Cruz in his new position and seeing the success that will be brought to our athletic programs. 💙🐂 #SomosToros

The LISD Athletic Department hosted the 2024-2025 Coaches Conference for all LISD middle and high school coaches at the Dr. Marcus Nelson Conference Center. The conference celebrated the 2023-2024 athletic accomplishments and geared up for an exciting scholastic year with our student-athletes.

Laredo ISD welcomed its newest educators during the New Teachers Academy on Tuesday morning at the Vidal M. Trevino School of Communications and Fine Arts. The morning began with greetings from Superintendent Dr. Sylvia Ríos. The new teachers are spending the week learning about LISD’s policies, procedures, instructional technology, and much more.

CONGRATULATIONS to our new Head Basketball Coach Juan Esparza.📢📢
Coach Esparza graduated from United South High School in 2003 and earned a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Texas A&M International University in 2007. Coach Esparza is married to Erika S. Esparza and prioritizes strong family values.
With a wealth of coaching and teaching experience spanning over a decade, Coach Esparza has demonstrated exceptional dedication to developing student-athletes both on and off the court.
His coaching experience began in 2009 at Cigarroa High School as an assistant coach and since then has coached at various programs, including Nixon HS and LBJ, in the same capacity.
In 2021, Coach Esparza returned to Cigarroa High School as the Head Cross Country Coach and as an assistant in the basketball & track programs. During his tenure, the Toros advanced to regionals in cross country in the 23-24 season.
Coach Esparza is committed to fostering a positive and competitive environment for our student-athletes. His passion for the game and dedication to student success make him an invaluable addition to the Toros family. CHS is looking forward to a great cross country and basketball season with you LEADING the CHARGE!! 💙🐂🏀🏃♂️
CONGRATULATIONS to Maria Belen Villarreal who has been named as our 2024-2025 Cigarroa High School Head Volleyball Coach. Born and raised in Laredo, TX, she is married to Jesse J. Andrade from Pearland, TX. She has two sons, Sgt. Orlando J. Andrade and Andres J. Andrade, who both graduated from United South High School. Coach Villarreal graduated from J. W. Nixon High School, Silver Class of ‘89, and from Texas Woman’s University in Denton, TX with a Bachelor's degree in communication science for the Deaf and Hearing Impaired. She has been in Special Education for 30 years. She started her coaching career at J. W. Arndt Elementary, then at Lamar Bruni Vergara Middle School. In 2014, she started coaching at Dr. Leonides G. Cigarroa High School as an assistant coach for basketball, volleyball, and track and field. This coming year, Coach Villarreal will be Leading the CHARGE as the Head Volleyball Coach. Cigarroa High School is looking forward to a successful volleyball season. 💙🏐🐂
